    Daily Schedule
There is a regular Dhamma talk on Sunday afternoons. The program begins at 2 pm with chanting followed by meditation. After a short break, one of the senior monks gives a Dhamma talk. Tea is served at 4:30 pm on Sunday, and there is no evening puja Sunday night (except when the Lunar Obserance Day falls on Sunday).

On Lunar Observance Days, the four moon quarters, the schedule is reduced and the day is set aside for formal meditation and contemplation. Evening puja begins at 7:30 pm and is followed by a Dhamma talk (Except when the Lunar Obserance Day falls on Sunday. On such days, the Dhamma talk is part of the 2 pm program). After that, there is typically an all-night vigil with sitting and walking throughout the night. At midnight, a one hour question and answer tea break is held in the Dhamma Hall. Sitting and walking meditation then continues from 1 am until 3 am, when morning chanting begins. The day after the Lunar Observance Day is also set aside for rest and further practice.

As the scheduling for the Lunar Observance Day varies somewhat from the observable moon phases, check the Abhayagiri Calendar for exact dates. It is optional for overnight guests and visitors to attend the all night vigil.

    Luang Por
    Ajahn Jayasaro
    June 26, 2018
    You were a fountain
    of cool stream water
in the square of a dusty town,
and you were the source of that stream,
    on a high, unseen peak.
You were, Luang Por, that mountain itself,
    unmoved,
    but variously seen.
Luang Por, you were never one person,
    you were always the same.
    You were the child laughing
at the Emperor’s new clothes, and ours.
You were a demand to be awake,
the mirror of our faults, ruthlessly kind.
Luang Por, you were the essence of our texts,
    the leader of our practice,
    the proof of its results.
    You were a blessing bonfire
    on a windy, bone-chilled night:
    How we miss you!
Luang Por, you were the sturdy stone bridge,
    we had dreamed of.
    You were at ease
    in the present
as if it were your own ancestral land.
    Luagn Por,
you were the bright full moon
that we sometimes obscured with clouds.
You were ironwood, you were banyan, and you were bodhi:
    ‘Pormae-khroobaajahn.
Luang Por, you were a freshly dripping lotus
in a world of plastic flowers.
Not once did you lead us astray.
You were a lighthouse for our flimsy rafts
    on the heaving sea.
    Luang Por,
you are beyond my words of praise and all description.
    Humbly, I place my head
    beneath your feet.

This poem by Ajahn Jayasaro is from the book, Stillness Flowing.

In this reading from the 2019 Winter Retreat, Ajahn Thitapanno continues reading from the meditation chapter of Stillness Flowing, titled The Heart of the Matter. This reading covers the last three of the five hindrances: sloth and torpor, agitation and worry, and doubt or indecision. The following discussion centers around doubt. Community members share their perspective on the effects and causes of doubt by relating to their own experiences and the suttas.
This reading was offered on January 10, 2019 at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.

The Heart of the Matter, Part 5 | Abhayagiri Sangha

The Heart of the Matter, Part 6 | Abhayagiri Sangha

Tan Nisabho continues reading from The Heart of the Matter, the chapter on meditation in Ajahn Chah's biography, Stillness Flowing. Sparked by a question regarding Ajahn Jayasaro's use of the term, lucid calm, the discussion following the reading looks into the role language and the imperfect proposition of translation and interpretation have played in shaping the discourse and perception of Buddhist practice. This reading was offered on January 12, 2019 at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.

Tan Suhajjo continues reading from Ajahn Chah's biography, Stillness Flowing, in the chapter on meditation, The Heart of the Matter. After the reading, Ajahn Karunadhammo offers a reflection on the various technical terms of Buddhist practice that, when probed too closely, lead us into too much conceptual conjecture. He closes with the thought, "People use these words in very different ways...so...watch how your own programming holds that and...go back to what the experience is."

This reading was offered on January 15, 2019 at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.
